Ausco Modular Cairns Hire Operations Supervisor, Andrew Bell, is preparing to embark on a three-day bike ride from Cairns to Cooktown, to raise money for the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation, as part of the Mount Franklin Cardiac Challenge.
Ausco Modular are sponsoring Andrew in the event, assisting in his efforts to raise $10,000 for the Foundation.
Andrew is participating in the challenge for the third year in a row and this year will complete the 360 kilometre ride alongside a team of 15 people including wife Kerry Archer, 12-year-old son Cooper Bell and, colleague and first time participant, Ausco Townsville Manufacturing Manager, Craig Canning.
The charity hits close to home for the Cairns resident whose father-in-law suffered from a heart attack and split aorta several years ago.
“The incident devastated our family but we are forever grateful for the support from the team in the Cardiac Unit who cared for my father-in-law back to good health,” said Andrew.
“Participating in the Challenge is my way of giving back to the staff who generously supported my family throughout that time,” he said.
Andrew said the Challenge is not a race, rather a ride that raises awareness and much needed funds to purchase medical equipment for the Cairns Hospital Cardiac Unit.
“Everyone who participates in the Challenge is very supportive. We listen to music while we ride and really look out for one another along the way,” he said.
Andrew is a mountain bike enthusiast and rides all year round. To prepare for the event on September 16, the team ride together every Saturday for 80 to 100 kilometres.
Andrew and his team members are raising money though sausage sizzles, car washes and jersey sponsorship with an aim to raise $10,000 for the foundation.
